ড্রাই-প্যাস্টেল ও চারকোল এই দুই মাধ্যম উপাদানগত ভাবে আলাদা হলেও এদের চরিত্রগত কিছু মিল আছে। এই দুটি মাধ্যম ড্রাই হওয়ায় শুকনো বা ভেজা কাগজে এদের ব্যবহার বিধি অনেকটাই এক। আমি এদের প্রায় একইভাবে ব্যবহার করে থাকি। মূলত কাগজের ওপর হাতে ঘষেই রং লাগাই। কিছু ক্ষেত্রে রেখার আশ্রয় নিতে হয়, কিছু জায়গায় হেচিং লাইন দিয়ে বা সরাসরি রং ঘষেই টোন আনা হয় বা শেড তৈরি করা হয়। মিশ্র মাধ্যমেও ড্রাই-প্যাস্টেল বা চারকোল আমার কাছে যথেষ্টই গুরুত্ব পায়। এর উজ্জ্বল ও সতেজ রং যাতে বজায় থাকে, আমি সেদিকে লক্ষ্য রাখি। চারকোলের গভীর কালো রং ও তার নানান টোন ছবিকে গভীরতা দেয়। সবে মিলে এই মাধ্যম দুটিতে কাজ করে আমি যথেষ্ট আনন্দ পাই।

Although dry-pastel and charcoal are materially different, they have some characteristic similarities. Since these two mediums are dry, the rules for using them on dry or wet paper are very similar. I use them almost the same way. Basically, I apply the colour by rubbing it on the paper by hand. In some cases, lines have to be resorted to, and in some places, the tones are brought or the shades are made by rubbing the paint directly with hatching lines. Dry-pastel or Charcoal is also important to me through mixed means. I try my best to retain its bright and fresh colours. The deep black colour of the charcoal and its various tones give depth to the picture. These two mediums are extremely new to me, but it’s quite satisfying.
